How I've been able to blog consistently

Recently, someone asked me:

Why are you investing your time in blogging? Where do you find the time? I'm so busy.

Wake up early, get it done early. Get your high-leveraged things done faster, in less time early. Something that might take someone else hours.

Invest your time in the things that matter most

Just like investing time in real estate which requires time, patience, and education before you can take action, I feel investing time in writing content or blogging is also a high-leveraged task in our "content currency" world.

It is a "digital asset" that works for you for years to come.

Once you create it, the content becomes an extension of you accessible from anywhere in the world. It's like carrying a notebook that you can show to the world. Very powerful.

What do you ‘get more done in less time’?

One specific technique that actually worked for me…and has brought me productivity success is…

1. Using a morning ritual/routine:

Every morning I create a 1-3 hour chunk of time dedicated to a craft. This is my space for clarity first thing in the day without interruptions. It’s also very therapeutic.

High-leveraged tasks tend to be your most ugliest task in your to-do list...or a task that will pay you for years to come. Something that will affect you 10 years from now.

Use these "power hours" to get tough things done with morning energy…laser focused free from distraction.

You can get something done in 1 hour which might take someone else days or even weeks to complete! It’s true!

I can speak from experience that it's very satisfying to have something meaningful done before you tackle other things in the day. It’s like you’re riding a wave of positive energy. Most of the stuff you do during the day is trivial anyway and doesn't bring long-term value or make money (email, social media, etc). Most of it is noise or a distraction.

2. Wake up before everyone else.

For me, there’s no better feeling than being ahead of the pack by waking up early.

1-3 hours of dedicated “me” time works. This is 1-3 hours before my daughter wakes up and/or before I have to go to work.

Do it over and over again and you will get compounding results.

Fact:  a penny doubled everyday becomes $30 million by day 30.

idea: Navigate your day, by dumping what’s on your mind in a journal. Get all your ideas, frustrations, thoughts on that piece of paper, and then design your day.

What if you took out a piece of paper and got started right now?

1. Write down what your #1 desired outcome is in 7 years.

Be very clear and specific in 1-2 sentences. Keep it simple, short and concise.

Focus on the "what" part of the outcome, not on the "how you will get there".

Describe it in this format:

A) #1 result or desired outcome

My iPhone: this sticker reminds me to do "ONE" high-leveraged task at a time.

My iPhone: this sticker reminds me to do "ONE" high-leveraged task at a time.

Don't be surprised if this task seems counterintuitive.

The high-leveraged goals are rooted in your purpose (or asking yourself why you are doing it) and require patience. I

Again as the quote goes, once you get in the habit of completing this everyday, a penny doubled everyday for 30 days is 30 million dollars.

Here's a working example:

  1. 7 year goal: "My 7 year goal is to add massive value to the lives of 80,000 people through my blog."

  2. 5 year goal: Add massive value to the lives of 50,000 people through my blog.

  3. 1 year goal: build a blog platform with valuable content to add valuable to 1000 readers per month.

  4. 1 thing this week: consistently post 1 high value blog post everyday, for 1 week during my morning ritual before I start the day.

  5. 1 thing right now: write a valuable useful blog post for my readers.
